ABOUT
The King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public Transport is part of an ambitious plan to equip the city of Riyadh with a world-class rapid transport network that will provide communities comfortable, affordable, and time-saving mobility options.
One of the world’s largest infrastructure project of its kind, the project creates an interconnected city with:
- 6 metro lines
- 84 metro stations
- 80 bus routes
- 2,860 bus stops
- 842 buses
As a trusted advisor to the High Commission for the Development of Riyadh, Hecla provided crucial project vision and direction to ensure alignment and integration across multiple workstreams for this complicated project. We provided this vision and direction by designing and developing supply chain strategies for Bus Procurement, Operations, Facilities Management and associated sub-projects.
We followed a number of project management best practices to ensure excellent delivery for the Planning and Development Authority for city of Riyadh, incorporating ‘cradle-to-grave’ life cycle management processes. We also initiated a ‘Design for Maintenance’ concept for Transport Control Centre and Stations.
Crucially, Hecla led on multiple tendering and contracting activities including drafting of contract documents and schedules, involving numerous contractors and stakeholders.
Highlighting our flexible approach to consultancy we also offered more practical delivery support, by coordinating Metro and Bus programmes to achieve alignment for construction works and start-up, as well as devising and implementing an Asset Management strategy for both fixed and mobile public transport infrastructure.
